VMS83I_ACRTL-V0500 patch error: %PCSI-E-PARUDF

Hello,

I tried to install the VMS83I_ACRTL-V0500 patch on an Integrity box (rx2620) yesterday and came up with the following error:

The following product will be installed to destination:
HP I64VMS VMS83I_ACRTL V5.0 DISK$I64SYS:[VMS$COMMON.]

%PCSI-E-PARUDF, file [SYSLIB]DECC$SHR.EXE was not previously installed or is present but out of scope; imglib module update skipped
Terminating is strongly recommended. Do you want to terminate? [YES]

Portion done: 0%
%PCSI-E-S_OPCAN, operation cancelled by request

Recovery pass starting ...

Recovery pass concluded

%PCSI-E-S_OPFAIL, operation failed
%PCSIUI-E-ABORT, operation terminated due to an unrecoverable error condition

I'm not sure why it failed as we do have a DECC$SHR.EXE updated to the previous V4.0 patch:

$ dir sys$library:DECC$SHR.EXE /date/own/prot

Directory SYS$COMMON:[SYSLIB]

DECC$SHR.EXE;1 28-NOV-2007 15:29:08.76 [SYSTEM] (RWED,RWED,RE,RE)

Has anyone else had a problem installing this patch?

Do you have VMS831_UPDATE-V0600 installed? Perhaps the problem is with a part of that upgrade other than ACTRL-V0400.

The last thing I've tried to install was the ACRTL patch and that occurred after all of the other installations and a reboot.

Kevin,

Can you do a PROD SHO OBJ/FULL
[SYSLIB]DECC$SHR.EXE and post the results?

Solution

Re: VMS83I_ACRTL-V0500 patch error: %PCSI-E-PARUDF

Nevermind. I just found the problem. The ACRTL kit ships DECC$SHR.EXE and DECC$SHRP.EXE. The former gets put in IMAGELIB and the latter does not. The problem is that the installation file lists DECC$SHR twice and does not list DECC$SHRP. So, PCSI installs DECC$SHR.EXE and places it in IMAGELIB, then installs DECC$SHR.EXE again but doesn't put it in IMAGELIB. However, the PCSI database knows that the image being replaced was in IMAGELIB, sees the discrepancy, and gives the error. The other effect is that DECC$SSHRP.EXE never gets replaced.

This is being corrected now and a new VMS83I_ACRTL-V0600 kit will be available later tonight. I am also looking at how this got past our testing.
