Hello all,
I´ve been trying to find an answer on this great forum but not yet had any luck.
So I´m dropping the question myself.
I´m about to start an installation of ovms 8.3-1h1. Since the RX machine I will be using is in a remote datacenter an ovms dvd will be loaded for me and I have remote access to the iLO.
Looking at the manual I stumble upon this remark at page 72 - 3.4.1 of the installation and upgrade manual when at that point installation of basic ovms & config has finished
The Manual says:
Booting the OpenVMS I64 System Disk
The following steps explain how to boot your new OpenVMS I64 system disk....
--------------------------------------------
NOTE: Make sure you remove the DVD from the DVD/CD drive before booting the system
disk.
--------------------------------------------
Why should the DVD be removed? Can´t I just leave it in there and continue?
Since the datacenter is not filled with staff I will need to make a media removal request that will be time consuming.
So has anyone of you just ignored this without any further problems?
Thanks!
regards
Jeroen

Solution
Jeroen,
the Itanium system may try to automatically boot from the first entry in the boot manager menue. If this is the DVD entry and the DVD is still inserted, it will boot from the DVD.
You can manually boot from any other entry or you can move the DVD entry further down, to allow automatic boot from your OpenVMS I64 system disk.
Use @SYS$MANAGER:BOOT_OPTIONS.COM or the EFI menue.
Volker.

Re: Why do I need to remove OVMS DVD after installation?
Okay, I will move the dvd option down then.
Thanks!
Thanks!
