Windows (!!!) keypad and EVE

Beste vrienden,

A keypad problem, I use personal alpha on my laptop, which works fine.

To create an edt keypad I have added a wireless usb keypad to the laptop.
The problem is that on the keypad the following keys are mapped:

On PF1 the numlock
On PF2 the /
etc.

The problem is PF1 (numlock).

Every time I use the GOLD key, there is a numlock toggle, so the next time I use the "L" key on the "normal" keyboard I get a 3.

Anyone an idea.

Searching the internet has not helped me. All the option given to disable the numlock key, also disables the GOLD key.

Help.

Re: Windows (!!!) keypad and EVE

I've pretty much given up trying to fight it. Too many different (customer) systems I have to connect to. To many environments to connect from (my main desktop, my main laptop, my tablet...).

For my Unix work I'm already using vi.
For my VMS work I'm using VIM more and more.

but anyway...

Kindly indicate which terminal emulator you are mostly using.
That will be a big factor in the options you may or might not have in defining a gold key at all, and preferably had that be "numlock"

Groetjes,
Hein.

Re: Windows (!!!) keypad and EVE

When I need to use a Mac or Windows system to
talk to my VMS system, I tend to map the
whole top row of the keypad to four
F-something keys. (It avoids the num-lock
problem but it's less convenient, and
switching back and forth hurts my head.)

Re: Windows (!!!) keypad and EVE

I solved this with hardware. I bought a detached numeric keypad. I had to return two of them because they were straight USB and did not support the PF1, etc. correctly. Finally a keypad with a PS2 connector and a USB-to-PS2 adapter did the trick.

Re: Windows (!!!) keypad and EVE

I also solved this with hardware.

I use an LK46W-A2 connected to whatever Windows system I need to use. Other than having to mentally map the LK's "Remove" key to the standard PC keyboard "delete", it works quite nicely. I've been using this with the Powerterm emulator, and from that standpoint, I pretty much forget whether I'm using an emulator, or logged in directly to whatever
VMS system I'm using.

I've not had any problem using standard Windows applications (Word, Exchange, Powerpoint, etc...) with this configuration.

Re: Windows (!!!) keypad and EVE

I am using putty as terminal emulator.
The GOLD function works, but it has two functions in one.

Pressing the GOLD key gives the GOLD function, but also toggles the numlock.

Example: GOLD - 7, gives the command prompt, but before entering commands I first have to hit the numlock key on the normal keyboard to toggle it back to numlock-off.

Did you try Reflection terminal emulator?
Did not find better terminal emulator for VMS work.
In vino veritas, in VMS cluster

I have just installed powerterm, works the same.

Re: Windows (!!!) keypad and EVE

I use KEA and the "Scroll Lock" key functions as the Gold key instead of Num Lock. It doesn't cause as many problems if it's toggled on. Navigating in Excel is a little weird if it is.

Re: Windows (!!!) keypad and EVE

You can modify the key that is used as gold.
In eve "set gold" and it prompts for the gold key.

I use a customized eve where control whatever-key has the functions. And I use that eve instead of the std one. And e.g. the do key is control-?.
