Re: getcmd and OpenVMS 8.3

When I try that link, I get a :

550 %%RMS-E-DNF, directory not found, [.$ANONYMOUS_ROOT$5Z$8B000000$8D.VMS-FREEWARE.FILESERV.SPECIAL]GETCMD-ALPHA-83.EXE

error.

Re: getcmd and OpenVMS 8.3

Looks like your browser is doing something really funky with the filespec. You might try this:

http://vms.process.com/ftp/vms-freeware/fileserv/special/

Or just use an FTP client to go to ftp.process.com and look in [.VMS-FREEWARE.FILESERV.SPECIAL].

Huter,

the latter works. I got the error with Firefox and IE.

Re: getcmd and OpenVMS 8.3

Hello,
I ran this version just fine on an OpenVMS 8.3 Alphaserver 4100 system. On this system, I had privileges by default which allowed me to run it.

I then downloaded the getcmd.zip file on a GS1280 cluster running OpenVMS 7.3-2. When I ran getcmd, it said that I have unsufficient privilege. I imagine I must need CMKRNL or such to run this. I don't want to try it unless I know for sure I won't mess something up when it runs.

Can Hunter or somebody who knows tell me if increase my privileges, will running $ GETCMD cause any problems? I setup the foreign command as prescribed in teh aaareadme.doc that was included in the .zip file. Thanks.

Re: getcmd and OpenVMS 8.3

GETCMD does require CMKRNL.

There's always the potential for crashes when running kernel mode code, but I've never had a report of a system crash caused by GETCMD.

Don't I know that. I ran mwait (Kari Salminen) twice and crashed the system both times.
