looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

I've found this download page:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/svctools/decevent/

Unfortunatly the dowload link (ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/supportinformation/svctools/md5sum.axp_exe) leads to an invalid openvms alpha image:

$ run md5sum.axp_exe
%DCL-W-ACTIMAGE, error activating image MD5SUM.AXP_EXE
-CLI-E-IMGNAME, image file DEV:[DIR]MD5SUM.AXP_EXE;2
-IMGACT-F-NOTNATIVE, image is not an OpenVMS Alpha image

Any clue?

Re: looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

Gilles,

Yes, the file transfer mung`ed the file format. FDL or Set File/Attributes may help.

Try this...

$ Set File /Attributes = (rfm = Fix, lrl = 512, rat = None) md5sum.axp_exe

Enjoy,

The image activator used to be pretty ignorant about record formats, but did you make sure you downloaded the file in BINARY mode?

Here is another link, but I could not test it.

Re: looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

Thanks for all the responses, but none of the suggestions have worked:
- I have checked that the file has been transferred in binary mode
- rms attributes (rfm = Fix, lrl = 512, rat = None) were already correct (OpenVMS ftp client binary mode use those)
- the alternate download page points to the same download link

Re: looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

MD5SUM.AXP_EXE is definitly not a VMS image!
It contain the message "This program cannot be run in DOS mode" in the first block and "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" somewhere towards the end. However, it can also not be run on a W2000 PC -> md5sum.exe is valid, but for a machine type other than the current machine.

Re: looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

Oh, cool. Then I bet it's an Alpha NT image - there is an 'md5sum.x86_exe' in the same directory.

md5sum for VMS is in the GNV distribution !

Re: looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

this invalid image has been reported to hp informally. However they are busy with the upcoming announcement so it might not get fixed soon. Best bet is the one from the gnv distrobution which is available from
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/opensource/opensource.html#gnv
if you don't have the CD already.

Re: looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

Does the DCL verb, Checksum, use md5?

Re: looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

Jeffery,

I do not think so.
CHECKSUM works fine for me, but I have not the faintest idea what md5 is/should do.

Proost.

Have one on me.

Re: looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

(CHECKSUM does not use the md5 algorithm)

I'm told someone from hp is looking at problem file today.

Re: looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

I don't know how CHECKSUM works, but I recall from previous discussions (many years ago) that it is rather simple and easy to defeat.

MD5 is much stronger:

Re: looking for md5sum fon openvms alpha

Hanging off the page http://www.support.compaq.com/svctools/md5-instructions.html that Uwe posted are md5sum images for OpenVMS VAX and Alpha, DUnix, and WNT x86 and Alpha, especially http://ftp.support.compaq.com/svctools/decevent/ovms-alpha/md5sum.axp_exe
