Re: openvms 8.3 , upgrade firmware 5.9 to 7.3 now dont boot
Don't you hate when that happens...
fwiw, I'm running 8.3 with 7.2-1 firmware on a DS10, but there are 7.3 firmware release notes for the DS10, and it looks like that should work. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/alphaserver/firmware/current_platforms/v7.3_release/DOC/ds10_v73_fw_relnote.pdf
>> it stops on "jumping to bootstrap code".
So that is after it found and read the bootstrap code huh?
What device are you trying to boot from?
Fiber Channel? IDE? Scsi?
May we assume you did a full, cold, restart after the upgrade?
>> i reinstalled the opemvms but still on "jumping to bootstrap code".
Re-installed from CD?
So you can boot OpenVMS. Good sign.
>> boot_osflags on 10000
Hmm, isn't 0,0 more typical for OpenVMS ?!
If you continue to have problems, then you may want to reply here and attach a .TXT file with >>> SHOW CONFIG and >>> SHOW * output.
Maybe someone spots something odd.
Good luck,
Hein.

you could also attach the output from the verbose boot, was the system disk shadowed ?

what's the environment variable CONSOLE set to ? SERIAL or GRAPHICS ? Which console are you using ?
Try to boot with >>> B -fl 0,30000 and capture the output.

Re: openvms 8.3 , upgrade firmware 5.9 to 7.3 now dont boot
The QIO list shows a 'normal' disk read order. There should be a good few of those before the system is operational.
I've been fortunate never to need otehr flags and 0, or 1 for conversational. That 30000 is :
10000 Displays extensive, detailed debug messages during the boot process.
+
20000 Displays selected user-oriented messages during the boot process.
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/83final/ba322_90045/apas02.html
anyway...
>> block 0 of dqb1.1.1.13.0 is a valid block
Ah, so you are booting from a local IDE drive, connect as slave?!
That would not be my first choice.
I realize it worked before... or was that re-wired for this exercise?
Try with the disk connected at the end of the cable, and set to 'master'?
Perhpas share (in .TXT attachement) :
- SHOW CONFIG and/or
- SHOW DEVICE and/or
- SHOW BOOT* and/or
- SHOW *
hth,
Hein.

Re: openvms 8.3 , upgrade firmware 5.9 to 7.3 now dont boot
I was more thinking to make both CD and Harddrive masters on their own bus.
For example, on my DS10 I have:
>>>show dev
dqa0.0.0.13.0 DQA0 FUJITSU MPD3108AT DD-25-04
dqb0.0.1.13.0 DQB0 COMPAQ CDR-8435 0013
d
>> dont boot cd rom with opemvms 8.3

You don't need the CD anymore do you?
>> i dont have floppy in notebook.
My neither, does that matter?
Why do you mention a notebook>
>> but ds10 has usb. can i mount the pen drive and copy the txt?
I don't think so.
Of and be sure to report the console settings. It migth be working, but talking to a black hole. I had something like that, (on a VAX) last week, with no console/screen. Just blindly typed in 'boot' and eventually it appeared on the network.
fwiw,
Hein.
