I always use telnet on a pc to login to the alphaserver.
Recently i found that i can't open the terminal on the alphaserver,no matter how much times i click on the terminal icon, the indicator light of the disk flash but the terminal just don't open, but anyway,i still can telnet it.
Anybody tell me what could be the reason?

Re: openvms can't open terminal on the host
welcome to the OpenVMS ITRC forum.
Reading your description, it looks like you are logged in using DECwindows CDE on the graphics screen of the DS25 and want to open a DECterm terminal by clicking on the DECterm icon.
If the DECterm window does not open, this is typically caused by a problem in the login procedures (SYLOGIN.COM or user's LOGIN.COM). Look at any DECW*.LOG files in your login-directory for error messages. As a test, consider to temporarily add an $ EXIT command as the first line of your login procedures.

Re: openvms can't open terminal on the host
Volker.
I just used another user to login to the decwindows and there i could open the decterm terminal,so i modified the login.com file of the last user, and it works.
Several weeks ago ,i added a line to the login.com file--"$@orauser bkm" in order that i won't have to start oracle beq listner every time I start a session from the smarterm, but this caused the problem.
I don't know why this could cause the problem.

Re: openvms can't open terminal on the host
for further troubleshooting your DECterm problem, please see:
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/DOC/73final/6300/6300pro_008.html
Consider to add the following line at the beginning of your LOGIN.COM:
$ DEFINE DECW$DECTERM_OUTPUT DECTERM.LOG
Then re-active your oracle command line and re-try creating a DECterm windows. The DECTERM.LOG file should show you the error. If you find and post the error message, we may be able to tell you WHY it doesn't work.

Re: openvms can't open terminal on the host
I appreciate your help.
It's a pity that our alpha server is send to our client and our new alpha server will not be here untill next week.
I'll post the LOG file as soon as the new alpha server arrives.
