procedure to uninstall BMC patrol client/agent on Open VMS

Hi,

I want to uninstall BMC PATROL agent/client from open VMS server.

When I am trying to use,
$ product remove *
It is not showing me in product list, though this product is installed.

Is there any other way to see the product on VMS server? I want to know it.

Also I want to know how I can uninstall this product?

Thanks & Kind Regards,
Amit.

Re: procedure to uninstall BMC patrol client/agent on Open VMS

Amit,

there are 2 supported mechanisms to install software products on OpenVMS:

$ PRODUCT INSTALL

or the old way:

$ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL

Products installed with the newer method can be viewed with PROD SHOW PROD and removed with PRODUCT REMOVE ...

Products installed with @VMSINSTAL can be viewd in the file SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL.HISTORY, but cannot be removed using a standard OpenVMS procedure. Some products may supply their own de-installation procedure.

And then there a 'products', which you just copy into some directory, so you could delete the files to 'remove' the product.

Volker,

Thanks to suggest the old way of checking the installed products. Here now I am able to see the PATROL installed.

but i am not getting how to uninstall it. Also from where should remove the folder.

or any other way of installation?

Re: procedure to uninstall BMC patrol client/agent on Open VMS

Amit,

products installed with @VMSINSTAL cannot be 'removed' through a standard OpenVMS mechanism.

And I doubt that the BMC Patrol software provides some kind of de-installation procedure. Check the documentation ...

Don't worry too much about the disk space. Just make sure you disable the BMC Patrol startup procedures and/or run the product specific shutdown procedures to disable the product, if it is still active.
