"Ganged" NICs under VMS 8.3

I have two gigabit nics with addresses of 147.92.5.7/24 and 147.92.5.8/24, and they're connected into different modules/blades on our core switch.

I'd like to use 147.92.5.5/24 as the IP for the server, and for that IP to continue to work even if a single nic or switch fails. Is it possible to "gang" the NICs with that IP so that happens?

Thanks!

You have several options. On 8.3, you can use LAN failover to create one logical interface (active/failover) or you can use Failsafe IP to assign IP addresses and manage failover.

It sounds like you're concerned with IP address redundancy only, if that's the case failsafe IP sound like what you're after. See the excellent article on the VMS Technical Journal site at http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/journal/v2/articles/tcpip.pdf and the TCPIP documentation at http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/83final/6526/6526pro_005.html#failsafe_chap.
