read a TZ88 tape on a SDLT ?

I plan to replace an Alpha server 800 (Vms 7.1-1H1) with TZ88 tape by a DS15 (Vms 7.3-1 or 7.3-2) with a SDLT320 .

I would like to be sure I can read my DLT TAPE IV on the SDLT320 to restore the data ?

Regards

Gerard

gerard,
We have gone from AS4000 DLT IV to SDLT drives. I can confirm that you can read DLTiv tapes on SDLT320 drive. Of course you can't write to DLT IV tapes on SDLT drive.

Re: read a TZ88 tape on a SDLT ?

Thanks

If I get a Sdlt 110 instead of a SDLT 320, can I still use my Tape IV ?

According to the QuickSpecs at:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11840_div/11840_div.html

* Backward-read compatibility with DLT Type IV tape cartridges used with DLT1, DLT VS80, DLT 40, DLT 70, and DLT 80 tape drives

Thanks

I meant, can I write on my "old" tapes, and the answer is clearly NO.

That is correct. If I recall correctly the SDLT tape drives even use a separate head for DLT backward compatibility!

Re: read a TZ88 tape on a SDLT ?

Gerard,
You can read the DLT IV on any SDLT drive but not write to it
Furthermore, You can use 110/220 or 160/320 tapes with SDLT 110/220 drive.
I don't know if you can use 110/220 tapes on SDLT 160/320...I am not sure
