That _is_ the symptom when the DVD-ROM is on
the (right-looking but) wrong cable.

Its a SCSI DVD ROM.
A HP SCSI DVD-Rom.
I can't find any doco on if the zx2000 is picky for SCSI ID's
I've tried 512/2048 block size to.

I can read, honest. I must have fallen
asleep at "HP". Around here (after I yanked
a hard disk drive and stuck in a Sun-approved
Toshiba DVD-ROM drive at ID=6):

Re: zx2000 , VMS 8.3 can not install

I'd swap the SCSI DVD-ROM drive for an IDE DVD-ROM or DVD+R/RW drive, as a test.

There are comparatively few SCSI DVD devices around, and my experience with them has been somewhat mixed. (SCSI CD and CD-R/RW drives worked OK, though.) Drives built from SCSI to IDE adapters can also have mixed results.

Hoff:-
All my IDE DVD Roms give me the "DQ medium not ready" error.

Also tried DVD+R and DVD-R

I think that my zx2000 is not healthy.
Although Linux,HP-UX and win2003 work fine and it passes all off line diag checks.

I don't understand why every other OS works!

Thanks

That's wrong. Use 0,30000 for the flags and it may show some REAL info.

Jur van der Burg :-

Hangs at the same place as every other command I've used.

Re: zx2000 , VMS 8.3 can not install

Steven Schweda:-

Only thing different seems to be your using an LSI 1010 based SCSi card.
I am using an LSI 1030 with HP EFI firmware.
From what I have read this should work fine.

I know the DVD-rom works because its from my Sun Enterprise 3000.

Re: zx2000 , VMS 8.3 can not install

All,

I booted the DVD with the following:-
vms_loader.efi -flags 0,20000

After a wile text stops scrolling, DVD stops reading system hangs.
All though this time I've got more information.

System will not go past "%SWAPPER-I-SYSDISK, checking status of system disk"

I notice that this what a lot of people got with the IDE DVD-ROM on the wrong cable trick.
Since i am using SCSI that can not be

Heres a copy of the last lines..

Re: zx2000 , VMS 8.3 can not install

It is not possible to boot from a SCSI-DVD because SCSI-DVD-drive switch automatically to 2048 bytes per I/O whereas VMS only handles 512 bytes per I/O.

My advise is to use USB.
