3X-DEGXA-TA Broadcom

I have installed a 1 gig nic card in an ES40 running V5.1b not patched, anyway the card is not there when the OS comes up. At the SRM console it shows and in sysconfigtab I see the driver listed "bsm", yet I cannot see the interface. I have done a #sysconfig -c bsm which loads the bsm driver but I still cannot access the interface. Do I need to rebuild the kernel or just patch it?

you need to boot genvmunix and build a new kernel.

Like Michael said you will have to boot genvmunix and do doconfig.
But I think that you will have to install at least PK3 to make Broadcom NIC work OK (from my experience).
And why not install PK5?

First: There is no "bsm"-driver in Tru64, not even in the genvmunix of V5.1B+pk#5 (ie BL26).

Second: The DEGXA is supported by the "bcm"-driver since sept 2002 with V5.1A+pk#3(ie BL20)
Support for IEEE 802.1Q (VLAN)tagged packets in the bcm driver was added by pk#1 for V5.1B

You can save yourself the boot from /genvmunix by editing the file /sys/conf/HOSTNAME, and inserting the line :

config_driver bcm

Then run doconfig -c HOSTNAME, and reboot from the new kernel.

Johan is right. But I gess we all thinked "bcm".
Besides, there is a difference between 3X-DEGXA-TA and 3X-DEGXA-TB.

Sorry I got the wrong driver name it is "bcm"
