Add drives to Alpha TRU64 server via Storageworks disk controller

I need to add new disks to an Aplha TRU64 server via the Storageworks Command Console. Can anyone tell me how to do this, is this disruptive to the system - outage, and how long this generally takes? The disks have been added and I need to get the server to recognize them.

Hi,

what kind of storage subsystem are you using?

1 - Compaq DS-SWXRA-GH - looks to be the primary
3- Digital DS-SWXRA-GN

Classified as StorageWorks RAID Array 3000. The Compaq DS-SWXRA-GH is the main unit while the 3 Digital DS-SWXRA-GN are supplemental "shelves"

That's a sime scsi connected raid array.
What OS version are you running? V4.0F? V5.x?

You should be able to avoid downtime.
You many need an SCU SCAN EDT
or HWMGR SCAN SCSI depending on version.
You may need a MAKEDEV for the device file on V4.
Google for some of the above for help.
Add +site:itrc.hp.com if you like to see prior topics here.

The simple/braindead/disruptive method is to boot genvmunix, have it discover the devices, doconfig -c, move teh new kernel, reboot for the second and final time.

RTFM! (Read The Fine Manuals... they were written for a reason).

Re: Add drives to Alpha TRU64 server via Storageworks disk controller

Hi,

Can you connect to the HSZ22 with storage command console?
You can add a virtual drive by right clicking on the controller symbol. You need the password for the agent. The preferred method is a serial connection to the controller, however. The controller is a bit picky when you touch LUN 0.
