In trying to boot the OS CD to do an install it halts and goes back to the monitor prompt. about half way through it gives an error failed to configure ev7_ocla system but seems to continue. After various messages that look OK it gives a ufs_mount root failed cannot mount root and panics back to the monitor prompt. I tried searching on the error but found nothing.
I'm following the configuration in the installation manual which sayes to do an "init" then boot the cd "boot dqa0.0.0.16.0" (which is our CD-rom).
Any ideas besides finding a different reseller next time.
Thanks
Tim

Solutionsince cpus in the es45 are not ev7 but ev68 it normal that this message occurs. You do not need to boot with the whole address. boot dqa0 is sufficient. Please post
show config
show dev
show *
as attachment.

Michael

Re: Cannot Install true64 v5.1b on a new ES45
Also retry to boot, but now with the console variable "bootdef_dev" set to a null-string.

Re: Cannot Install true64 v5.1b on a new ES45
Here are the show outputs. I also did a
set bootdef_dev "" , init and boot dqa0 with the same results.
Many Thanks

Re: Cannot Install true64 v5.1b on a new ES45
the firmware is not the newest. You should update it. Not all cpus have the save revision. I am however not sure if this is a problem. You can not use * in the boot device variables. You said you cleared them. Does this mean the output is from before?
So much for now,
Michael

Re: Cannot Install true64 v5.1b on a new ES45
Sorry, the output was from before I cleared it. Now boot lines look like this.
P00>>>show *
auto_action HALT
boot_dev
boot_file
boot_osflags
boot_reset OFF
bootbios pya0
bootdef_dev
booted_dev
I will work on getting the firware current on the system and CPUs.
Thanks

Re: Cannot Install true64 v5.1b on a new ES45
Problem Fixed.
I updated the firmware with no change.
They I remembered hearing the cd-rom dive labor at one point reading the CD. I changed the CD-rom drive and successfully loaded the OS on the system. The room is so noisy where it's at I was lucky to hear it.
I did find out that the CD-rom drive even though it's IDE is not the same as a PC drive. IT apparently has a different block size.
Many thanks to all who responded.
