Compaq Tru64 Unix V5.1 <Rev. 1885>

Hi,

I've got a problem with one AlphaServer DS10 station. When trying to reboot the station, hereis the error message :

(boot dqa0.0.0.13.0 -file vmunix -flags a)
block 0 of dqa0.0.0.13.0 is a valid boot block
reading 19 blocks from dqa0.0.0.13.0
failed to send Read to dqa0.0.0.13.0
failed to read dqa0.0.0.13.0
bootstrap failure

I tried to restore it from an old backup, but the restore stops saying that :

Hard Error Detected
Hardware ID = 46
Maxtor 6E040L0 NAR6
Active CCB at time of error
CCB request completed with an error
Error, exception, or abnormal condition
MEDIUM ERROR - Nonrecoverable medium error

(more details are in attachments).

It seems a Hw pb. but what exactly ?

Please advise.

Thx

Bad CD-ROM drive? Bad hard disk drive?
What's dqa0?

Not much of a description of anything.

Bad disk/tape device/medium?

> Maxtor 6E040L0 [...]

Possibly that one?

All that money and no SCSI disk?

Do you have a alternate boot disk, if yes...boot it.....from other disk....
and then try to trouble shoot the problem

Hi Kapil,

No, i don't have an alternate disk. So you think the local disk of this station is damaged and should be replaced ?

Thx

Yes. The message "Nonrecoverable medium error" looks pretty terminal to me.

Thx Rob. It seems we'll be obliged to replace the local disk
