Console hang frequently.

Hi All

Hardware: Alpha Server 4100
OS : 4.0F
Database : Oracle

Console hang frequently, but system is running, we can work through telnet and even can shutdown the server. But console hang so we have to reboot the server to clear it.

Do you have graphics or serial console?
If graphics, does restart of X server help?
Do you have some kind of KVM switch?
Please send more details.

Its a serial console, & dont have any graphics card. No kvn switch. Its directly connected to com1.

Guess you tried , and reset comms on terminal ?

Did you check that the getty on /dev/console was still running, or was another process owner of /dev/console.

Is the serial cable connected to tty00 or tty01, is there a getty for tty01 ?

What are the related lines in /etc/inittab.
