Date has changed after resetting and booting up ES80 Server

Dear All,

Appreciate your usual help on the below issue .
During the removal of an external tape drive connected to the ES80 in the evening of 25 Oct (yesterday), the system hanged ! Afterwards, the technical team did a reset of the server. After booting up, everything was ok, but the Date has changed from 25 Oct to 24 Oct causing some problems on the application level. We need assistance to figure out why the date has changed after the reset. Please note that we 've rebooted the server normally and the date didnтАЩt change after that . Can you please help and advise on why this change of date has occured???

Thanks in advance for your help

Not sure if this could be the issue, but during boot time, if you have an NTP server configured (in /etc/ntp.conf), the server runs the ntpdate command to set the date according to the NTP server. If the TIMEZONE is incorrect, you can have unexpedted results.

Correction to 1st reply:

ntpdate is called by /sbin/rc3.d/S14settime while going to multi-user mode, and it is only executed when in /etc/rc.config XNTPD_CONF=YES, at least one XNTP_SERV[1-2]is definded there and that server is reacheable. /etc/ntp.conf is not used at this stage.

Alternatively S14settime would call rdate if RDATE_CONF=YES in etc/rc.config.

Do you record the console messages via the ConsoleWorks PC, and do you have a "Ntpdate failed." string in there for that particular boot ?

Re: Date has changed after resetting and booting up ES80 Server

I recommend reading about the ES80 MBM console time management article that may explain the time difference.
