Simpler Navigation for Servers and Operating Systems - Please Update Your Bookmarks
Completed: a much simpler Servers and Operating Systems section of the Community. We combined many of the older boards, so you won't have to click through so many levels to get at the information you need. Check the consolidated boards here as many sub-forums are now single boards.
If you have bookmarked forums or discussion boards in Servers and Operating Systems, we suggest you check and update them as needed.

Daylight Savings Time Change

I am new to this area and have inherited an old unix server. My best guess is the following:

AlphaServer 1000A 5/333
Digital Unix V4.0E (rev.1091)
Firmware Version: 5.5-75

My Question: How do I change the system time to reflect the new Daylight Savings Time?

I suggest connecting to an ntp , otherwise use the date command. The man page tels you the data format of command.

Re: Daylight Savings Time Change

What was once known as Digital Unix is now Tru64 UNIX, so this question would rather belong to the Tru64 section of the ITRC Forums.
I'll put in a request to get this question moved there.

Nevertheless, all information about DST changes as they relate to HP-supported OSs is available at:

It offers this link for Tru64-specific information:

The oldest version with DST patches available is V4.0F PK8, so I'm afraid your V4.0E is so old it's already out of support.

In this thread, Mark Poeschl suggests how to make the necessary changes manually. Archunan Muthiah's link offers some related documentation.

Re: Daylight Savings Time Change

If you can't get a patch, here is a simple manual fix:

# mkdir /tmp/time
ftp> get tzdata2006o.tar.gz ( or the most recent)
# gzip â d tzdata2006o.tar.gz
# tar â xvf tzdata2006o.tar
# mv /etc/zoneinfo/sources/northamerica /etc/zoneinfo/sources/northamerica.2006MMJJ
# cp â p /tmp/time/northamerica /etc/zoneinfo/sources/northamerica
# zic northamerica
# ln -s /etc/zoneinfo/America/Montreal /etc/zoneinfo/localtime
