I inherited a ES40 which ran in autopilot for quite some years.
Lately I noticed a yellow light (failed disk) on the BA356.
I confirmed this from the srm console
show device
dra0.0.0.0.3.0 dra0 1 member jbod
dra1.0.0.0.3.0 dra1 5 member raid 5 degraded
A little more info with
show config
...
slot 3 mylex dac940
dra.0.0.0.3.0
dra0.0.0.0.3.0 dra0 1 member jbod
dra1.0.0.0.3.0 dra1 5 member raid 5
I replaced the broken disk.
Apparently I have to rebuild the degraded raid.
Can anybody tell me how to archive this?
My last contact with alpha days is quite 5 year back.
Thanks in advance
Andreas

SolutionIf the rebuild hasn't kicked in automatically, you will need to use the Raid Configuration Utility to start it.
See the user guide here:

Re: ES40 Rebuild Raid 5
I could successfully recover the Raid 5.
* From the srm console I started the Alpha console:
arc
* I put the raid configuration floppy in the drive
* Then I went to the Run Utility menu and started the raid configuration utility:
a:arccf.exe
* The drive in question was labeled accordingly and I hit the rebuild button.
I chose to format the disk.
Disk formation took approx. 2.5 hours and rebuild about 1 hour.
*Now every thing was fine:
no yellow light show device and
/var/adm/messages showed that the disk group was ok/online.
Thanks again
Andreas
