ES40 SO in Storage

I have a Typical DS–BA356 UltraSCSI SBB Shelf congigured with raid 5.
I trying to install a Debian into it, because the ES40 in question haven't the disk cages in front of it.
The SO starts the copy to initialization partition (this step is ok), after when it is initializing the instalation an error "copy fail" or something type is generate.
I have others ES40 running Debian, but the others is running the SO on disk cages. It is my first time about installing the SO on Storage. It's possilbe this operation?

Debian ?
This is a Tru64 UNIX forum.

Check if your HBA is supported by the Debian release you are using.

Re: ES40 SO in Storage

Hi there,

I've got the same remarks as John,
and one more
>>>an error "copy fail" or something type is generate <<<
does not give us moch to go for does it?

at the boot prompt set variable "console" to "serial".
useing a terminal emulator on the serial console port
capture the text output and post it on the forum

Like windows installation, the OS must know about the HBA at installation time.
either the dristibution must have support for the HBA (from your other post i understand it's a RA200RCU raid controller)
or you must add support for this driver at installation time.

Re: ES40 SO in Storage

this post
http://lists.debian.org/debian-alpha/2003/10/msg00114.html
tells about the same scenario.
first install on a local disk, then you can build a kernel with support for the raid controller and install on the external disk.
