What is the Tru64 version?, are you using the xlogin GUI screen or the regular login?

Re: How to change the Machine Name

You'd better change the "ident" in the /usr/sys/conf file + kernel build at the same time as /etc/rc.config and then reboot.

Setting the ident correctly will avoid that you will have poblems during the startup of the GUI (ToolTalk) on the graphics console at login time after the hostname change.

Re: How to change the Machine Name

Hi Mohamed

Thanx for the link you have provided.

I was thinking it was as easy as in HP-UX.
i didn't knew we have to do all these just to change the hostname.
never give up

Re: How to change the Machine Name

Well, every pint counts, you have to make sure that all related files are changed correctly so you won't get problems afterwards.

Have fun
