How to create a bootable DVD (> 1Gb)

I am trying to create a bootable Tru64 (5.1B) install DVD. So far i have been using "mkisofs". But any image greater than 1Gb (1023Mb) will fail to boot.

Ofcourse this may be because the ISO filesystem has a restriction on size. But then how does one go about to create a bootable DVD?

Re: How to create a bootable DVD (> 1Gb)

I can't believe, i am the only one in the world to create custom installations from HP Tru64 media sets.

Come on, tell me the trick :)

Re: How to create a bootable DVD (> 1Gb)

I've only seen custom CD-ROM's, maybe the trick is that we do not offer DVD drives for Alpha computers... ;-)

Re: How to create a bootable DVD (> 1Gb)

Yea, only too bad my ES45(all 16 of them) has/have one;

83: /dev/disk/cdrom0c HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8161B bus-1-targ-0-lun-0

Wanna try again? :)

Re: How to create a bootable DVD (> 1Gb)

The only supported DVD ROM is 3R-A4304-AA
(CARBON H/H 16X DVD-ROM drive)

The drive does not support UDF.

Re: How to create a bootable DVD (> 1Gb)

Are you trying to tell me, that i have 16 * ES45 (Order nr. DA-68DBA-DA) with a DVD-rom drive each (even says so on the tray), which can't be used as a DVD reader, but only as a CD-ROM reader?

If thats true, i will have a small issue to solve with my hardware supllier.

Re: How to create a bootable DVD (> 1Gb)

A DVD drive can always read CD and DVD formats. In your case it will fulfill all requirements as CD-Rom drive, because it will read all HP software (always delivered as CD-Rom and backwards compatible with older drives).

Why not creating a normal CD-Rom with bootable Tru64?

Re: How to create a bootable DVD (> 1Gb)

Because its easier to distribute one DVD, which does a complete unattended and configurable install of Tru64 UNIX, including setting up Trucluster and installing Oracle 9iRAC, with no disc swapping.

Than a disc version, which would need two (or many more) discs and/or would require operator intervention.

But if it isn't supported, it can't be done. And that would be a shame, ofcourse.

Or maybe i am just a bit ahead of my time.

Re: How to create a bootable DVD (> 1Gb)

Have a look into the Tru64 roadmap that will answer all questions regarding future devices or slots ;-)

Re: How to create a bootable DVD (> 1Gb)

Afraid the customer doesn't want to wait that long.

Guess i have to hack my way around the "supported" part.

Thanks for yer help.
