How to disable DVD player without phyically disconnect it?

Hello,

The DVD player of my DS15 failed and its LED is blinking. Console message "[700]SCSI event" shown continuously.

Since I never use this DVD player, I want to disconnect it but I can't open the server case. Is there any command that can disable the DVD player? System is running Tru64 5.1a.

The information of the DVD player:

HWID: 100
Device Name: /dev/disk/cdrom1c
Mfg: HL-DT-ST
Model: RW/DVD GCC-4481B
Location: bus-2-targ-0-lun-0
SCSI DEVICEID: 10

Please advice. Thanks in advance!!

Regards,
Cheri

Re: How to disable DVD player without phyically disconnect it?

Hi Cheri,

You could try to delete the device with the following commands, and see if that resolves the problem.

# dsfmgr -R hwid 100
# hwmgr delete component -id 100

...although the error might be being generated by the SCSI bus/controller rather than the device itself.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Rob,

I disabled the DVD player but the messages still display. I think the error is coming from the mother board :-(

Anyway, thanks for your help!!
