How to set root password in Tru64 if I forgot root's password?
Hi,
I am having normal as well as root user access to my Tru64 server. It is remotely managed by me. I forgot its root password. Is there anyway to change its root password without doing anything physically? If at all physical presence is reqiuired, what is to be done to change password of root?
Thanks in advance,
Vikas

Re: How to set root password in Tru64 if I forgot root's password?
1) If you have given root access to any other user (thru .rhosts file), you could use it to login as root and then change the passwd.
2) Try booting the system in single user mode and then change the passwd.

Re: How to set root password in Tru64 if I forgot root's password?
We don't recommend allowing direct logins to root over the network. Especially not by using .rhosts.
Once you have reset the password as suggested in the previous reply, I would suggest that you consider using SSH to connect directly to root over the netword for the future.
