Installation problem - Tru64 5.1a on DS20E

Got a bit of a problem getting Tru64 5.1a to install on a DS20E.

I've got NHD7 downloaded & burnt to a CD, followed the instructions in the download and the installation appears to run fine - until the reboot.

Once the server comes back up, it doesn't boot and gives the error:
halt code = 2
kernel stack not valid halt

According to the instructions, it's supposed to ask for the NHD kit location again - but it doesn't, I'm guessing this might have something to do with it?

I suppose my first question is, is this a supported configuration?

And if it is, does anyone have any ideas what might be up with it? I've got a suspicion it's an SRM variable wrong somewhere, but I'm not sure which ones I should be looking at!

I'm trying to install to a logical drive on a SmartArray 5300 controller if it helps.

Cheers

I'm limited to fibre-free systems, so I know
nothing, but is this one of those wwidmgr
questions?

Has any of this kit worked together before,
or do you need to do the basic wwidmgr stuff
so that SRM can locate the fibrous disk(s)?

Hi,

If its a SmartArray 5300 (aka KZPDC) then there shouldn't be any fibre or wwidmgr involved...

What does the output of "show boot*" give you from the SRM prompt (P00>>>)

You might also want to check the restrictions here:

Just had a look at that link - I wasn't aware of the PCI location restriction, I'll check that when I get there - I'm an hour or so away at the moment.

I've pulled the smart array out and successfully installed the server on a basic disk, so I assume the rest of the hardware is fine...

I'll post up the output of the 'show boot' command when I get there.

Cheers!

Bah. Lesson for the day: RTFM!

Moving the array controller to the bottom slot worked.

Thanks very much for your help!
