LSM brake for failing disk

Hi Team

I have two node tru64 cluster with LSM configured BA356 external storage. The Problem, one disk is being failing in one mirror set. Hence I want to replace the failing disk now. Worry is as LSM is configured we will have to brake the LSM before replacing it. As I have very week knowledge, I am afraid to do this without help. Hence please help me to brake the LSM and build the LSM once the disk is replaced.

Re: LSM brake for failing disk

afaik you don't have to break the LSM config.

if this disk is also used for the system disk it may need some extra attention.

it is allways a good idea to make a backup before making changes.

what version TRU64/cluster you use?
do you use the command-line interface or the graphical interface for managing LSM?
is the disk used only in a single volume or multiple volumes?

Re: LSM brake for failing disk

Dear Hart

We are using CLI for configuring LSM.I believe this disk is used for single volume.Anyway I have attached some volprint output here with. Its failing disk is dsk13 is being mirrored with dsk7.

Re: LSM brake for failing disk

using "voldiskadm" you can use option-5 to
replace a disk or option-12 to mark a new disk as a spare, wich can automatically replace the failed disk.

if using tru64 V5.x
- replace the failed disk
- hwmgr -scan scsi (disk gets new id)
- voldiskadm to assign new disk as spare

if using tru64 V4.x
- replace the failed disk (disk keeps old id)
- voldiskadm to reassociate the disk with the diskgroup

Same procedure you have to follow.
And its very simple not complecated well even if u have to break the mirror its OK no big deal in it.
