Are you installing this on the same system
where it worked before, or on some different
system? What is this system? How many
CPUs (now and before)? Did you save the old
license data base?

> Not enough units to load OSF-BASE DEC

On VMS, one can use a "SHOW LICENSE
/UNIT_REQUIREMENTS" command to show the
information in the License Unit Requirement
Table (LURT). I don't see a way to do that
on Tru64, so the actual requirement may
remain a mystery.

As a practical matter, all your OSF-BASE
PAKs seem to have the MOD_UNITS option, so
you could probably use "lmf" to modify one or
more of them to any number of units you might
like to have. Doing that may be your only
diagnostic tool. Increasing your license
units values for normal operation without
sending money to HP may violate your license
agreement, however.

That's three more than I ever had in a Tru64
system, so I know nothing, but "lmf" does
seem to offer an "lmf reset cpus n" command,
which may let you reduce the number of active
CPUs.

lmf reset cpus

urtx# lmf reset fred
Invalid argument fred
Usage : lmf reset [ cpus [ n ] ]

(On a single-CPU system, all values of "n"
seem to be invalid, so I can't do much
experimentation.)

Re: Licence error Alfha server

Hi,

Your OSF-BASE licenses are enabled rather than active, which will cause the error you're seeing.

This is probably because you should have 4 of them with a 4 CPU system, rather than just 3 - however it already looks as though one of the licenses "ALS-NQ-2003OCT14-63" has had the Number of units increased to account for this.

If an "lmf reset" doesn't sort things out, then you can try modifying that license again, to increase the number of units further.

There used to be a list of machines and license requirements online here:

http://licensing.hp.com/slm/swl/view.slm?page=alpha&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

but that now gives not found error, unfortunately.

I'd say that the "units" total is more
important than the number of PAKs. With my
weak psychic powers, I don't know if any of
these PAKs has had its "units" value
"increased", of if it simply had a large
value when it was issued.

Also, a PAK is not a license, and a license
is not a PAK. A license is a legal
agreement, which (probably) entitles you to
get (and use) a PAK.
