NFS issues on Tru64 / alpha V5.1

Hi,
We have a Tru64 server and there is a strange issue.

The problem is with the Automount.
if we disalbe automount in /etc/rc.config.common and restart the system and then re-enable, it works fine for a while and then again the automounter is hung. Can any of you tell me where to start troubleshooting. unfortunately /var/adm/messages doesn't help much.

all that is there in /var/adm/messages is
NFS2: not responding... still trying.
i can't the automount daemon as well.

it was due to a specific problem with auto_master.
