OS upgradation from 5.1A to 5.1B

Hi,

I want to upgrade one of our servers from 5.1a to 5.1b I know, space in root, usr & var is a parameter to be observed before upgradation. Below if the "df -k" o/p from the server. Pl let me know, wheather this is ok or do i have to make any modifications before i start the upgrade. Quick response is highly appreciated.

# df -k
Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
/dev/disk/dsk2a 182996 117593 47103 72% /
/proc 0 0 0 100% /proc
/dev/disk/dsk2g 6126163 920017 4593529 17% /usr
/dev/disk/dsk0c 25864323 6879332 16398558 30% /work
/dev/disk/dsk4c 25864080 6162099 17115573 27% /work2
/dev/disk/dsk1c 8620779 7757701 1000 100% /usr1
/dev/disk/dsk5c 8620779 3314254 4444447 43% /usr2

NOTE: /var is also in the user domain only( under /usr )

Re: OS upgradation from 5.1A to 5.1B

Ramesh,

1) Space requirements depends on your installed subsets.
2) Space requirements depends on the type of upgrade you will perform (rolling, non-rolling). But in your case it seems to be non-rolling on a standalone system.

Anyway, before the update starts, the procedure will check if there is enough space to continue.

You can check also chapter 3.5.7 of following document
http://h30097.www3.hp.com/docs/base_doc/DOCUMENTATION/V51B_HTML/ARH8SETE/TITLE.HTM

Now, seen the diskspace of / and /usr, there is certainly no problem in /usr.
I think that / will have enough space, but it is less sure. Before starting, check for corefiles, files in /tmp, multiple kernels, etc...

Re: OS upgradation from 5.1A to 5.1B

Hi Ramesh

upgrade looks only for /, /usr and /var file systems. try to release some space under / since system need space to build kernel while upgrading (only 47MB available).

noproblem in others
never give up
