Oracle needs TruCluster configuration

Hi,

Our Oracle DBA tried to invoke a SQL*PLUS svrmgrl and receive the following error message:
ORA-12571 "TNSL packet writer failure:
Cause: An error occurred during a data send.
This occurs on Digitual Unix when the node on which Oracle is starting is part of a Digital TruCluster.

Problem Explanation:
Configuration of the Trucluster software is incomplete.

Solutino descripton:
The tie-breaker disk has not been correctly configured on the Digital Trucluster system.

To resolve this error, you must configure the tie-breaker disk using the Digital utility 'cnxset'.

But I don't find a cnxset unix command in our Tru64 system.

We are running Tru64 5.1B-4.

Do I need to configure the server with TruCluster enbable? and how?

Thanks
P

Re: Oracle needs TruCluster configuration

I suspect a bad TNSNAMES.ORA

From your other question I got the impression that you had a working Oracle install on Tru64. Correct?

Is it a (RAC) cluster?

Which box is connecting where?
Tru64 (client) --> Tru64 (server) ?
...

Re: Oracle needs TruCluster configuration

Hi,

The TNSNAMES.ORA looks fine. It is the svrmgrl reporting error "TNS:packet writer failure".

Re: Oracle needs TruCluster configuration

You have, or had, a working config on Tru64. Correct? What changed? What is new?
Is the connection in-box or off-box?
Is this a cluster? Is it a RAC install?
svrmgrl? Haven't used that in years. Sqlplus?

Regards,
Hein.

Re: Oracle needs TruCluster configuration

'clu_quorum' is the utility to configure or remove a 'tie-breaker' disk - more commonly called a quorum disk.

Having said that, this does not at all sound like an issue with your quorum disk. Please post the output of 'clu_get_info -full'

Re: Oracle needs TruCluster configuration

Like said before, it is not configured as a cluster server:

# clu_get_info -full
System not configured to be in a cluster
#

Thanks

Re: Oracle needs TruCluster configuration

Hi,

I fixed that by decreasing the shmax size and added inet section in sysconfigtab file.

Thanks P

Re: Oracle needs TruCluster configuration

Thanks for the feedback.
Glad you got it to work.

fwiw, I found this exchange relatively frustrating/dissapointing. Basic question were never answerred and the 'solution' has nothing to do with the problem.

Anyway, like I said, I'm happy for you that you got it to work.

Regards,
Hein.
