RAID 1 + RAID 5 on DS20E

Hi,

Got a custmer who is asking to create raid 1 and raid 5 on DS20E running with True64 V4.0F. The system has 6 disks.

Is that possible?

Best Regards

Altin

Yes, you can do it with a hardware based RAID controllers or LSM.
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Thanks for the answer.

Right now the server has one KZPDC-BE.

Is that enough?

Re: RAID 1 + RAID 5 on DS20E

Hi,

According to the options list here:

http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/options/asds20e/asds20e_15_79_options.html#OptListHead

you need to be running at least Tru64 5.1A to use the KZPDC.

For a hardware RAID controller supported on 4.0F, you'd need one of the KZPCC models - an Adaptec based RAID card if I remember correctly.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Re: RAID 1 + RAID 5 on DS20E

Hi,

Yes, above correct but there is a bit more:
DS20e
KZPCC min unix os V4.0f
Max 2 in the system
EV67 pass 2.6 CPUs or EV68 CPUs only
if using a NILE card [option in DS20e]internally then:
NILE card required for Internal drive cages to support KZPCC
NILE card needs to be minimum Rev 0B firmware
& BA610-6D Internal 6 slot cage {NO support for 4 slot card cage]
External shelves supported:
Storageworks 42xx shelves
Storageworks 43xx shelves
Storageworks BA356 shelves + DOC2 I/O module required
Alpha f/w min = V6.0
You can program it from the off-line utility SMOR but if you want to do the on-line utility you will need SWCC on a windoes box and the KZPCC host agent on the unix box.

Think that's all.
