Radeon 7500, DS15 and Tru64 5.1A
I have a new DS15 where I have installed Tru64 5.1A (with NHD7). Everything went fine in the installation except one thing:
DS15 comes with an ATI Radeon 7500. Apparently, only Tru64 5.1B supports the graphic controller of this graphic card.
In fact, the DS15 with Tru64 5.1A assume a generic controller that is limited to 640x480, 4bit Color Depth.
I already tried to impose the values I want in "Xserver.conf": (-pn -bs -su -depth 8 -vclass PseudoColor -screen 1024x768 -vsync 75);
But in the X startup this values are marked as invalid.
So, is there any way that I can configure my X session in the way I want, with the HW/SW configuration I described?
Note: I must have Tru64 5.1A in the machine; upgrading to Tru64 5.1B is not an option.

Re: Radeon 7500, DS15 and Tru64 5.1A
if installing an os version please first check if the options within the machine are supported.
the installation instruction of the radeon card explains the steps for 5.1B. Tru64 loads an special driver for each card - but only if the card is detected by the generic kernel! Use sizer -gt to check if the kernel modul for the card is properly loaded. If only "generic" or "vga" will be detected maximum resolution is 640x480.
Without support it will not work. Maybe there is an NHD kit or latest patchkit delivers support for the card... but this will tell you the release notes of the card.

Re: Radeon 7500, DS15 and Tru64 5.1A
So far as I know, the only graphic card delivered whith DS15 is ATI Radeon 7500.
So, I think it's fair enough to expect that DS15 with Tru64 5.1A, Patch Kit 6 and NHD 7 installed, supports ATI Radeon 7500.
But no, it doesn't! And I have already confirmed with HP that they have no intention to support the Radeon 7500 on Tru64 5.1A. Too bad!
Nevertheless, thank you for your answers.

Re: Radeon 7500, DS15 and Tru64 5.1A
1. if using the search function within www.hp.com:
http://h18002.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11748_na/11748_na.HTML
Minimum Tru64 5.1A NHD7
2. Searching for Radeon 7500 AGP:
http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/products/graphics/radeon.html
Mimimum Tru64 5.1B
the radeon 7500 PCI version is not an option supported by Tru64 5.1A so the second card mentioned within the support matrix will also not work.
There are 2 possiblities: plug in another card like VX1 etc. but loose support in case of a problem or to buy another machine with supported graphic card.

Re: Radeon 7500, DS15 and Tru64 5.1A
Maybe the 3X-DEPVZ-AA is a option for You
This controller is supported in the DS15 with Tru64 5.1A on a DS15 (see notes below and link to supported options site!)
2D Video with 4 MB of graphics memory based on 3Dlabs Permedia2V video ASIC, all operating behind a 32-/64-bit, 33-MHz PCI-to-PCI (Intel 21154-AB) bridge chip.

Re: Radeon 7500, DS15 and Tru64 5.1A
Indeed, one solution I have considered is to change the graphic card by one supported by Tru64 5.1A. But this solution only applies to mono-screen workstations because, as it is said in DS15 QuickSpecs, The only Graphic card that is supported in a multi-screen environment is.... ATI Radeon 7500!
So this workaround is not so perfect...
Henri:
Thank you for your sugestion. I will investigate this one.
