Renaming disk device

Hello, I am new to Tru64 unix. I am trying to find a way to rename/renumber a scsi device. (See below - dsk14) I have added a scsi device to an existing system, but am wondering why it shows up at the bottom of the list. The HWID and deviceID do not seem to be in sequence. Can this be changed? For documentation purposes, it would be nice to have all of the disks on the same bus show up together...

Thanks in advance,

-tjh

# hwmgr -show scsi

Re: Renaming disk device

Thomas,

I think the answer is no. The HWID is kept in a database and is incremented by one when a new device is added. Old HWIDs are never used again. Go to the on-line doc.s page:

http://h30097.www3.hp.com/docs/pub_page/V51B_DOCS/V51B_DOCLIST.HTM

Look at the Hardware Management manual for details.

Re: Renaming disk device

Try 'dsfmgr -e', as in:

# dsfmgr -e dsk14 dsk

Re: Renaming disk device

Thomas,

You can use the dsfmgr command to manage device special files in the /dev directory and their associated databases.

dsfmgr -m dskxx dskyy

-m Moves the device special file for one named node to another. Use this option to reassign device special files, such as assigning the device special files from a failed disk device to its replacement. Devices must be of the same type.
