Re: Replaced TLZ09 tape drive not recognised on boot
First, is tape drive recognized in SRM console?
Does it have same SCSI adress?
What is the OS version? Looks like it is V4.x.
In version 4.x you do not have to recreate replaced tape drive. It must have same device file name if SRM console device name is also the same (for example MKA600). That means same SCSI adress.
In version V5.x device files are not the same and should be fixed by dfsmgr.

Re: Replaced TLZ09 tape drive not recognised on boot
no it was not recognised by the SRM console or by "show edt" in using the scu
have jsut replaced the old unit and now shows in SRM mkb600 and shows in the scu> show edt
but now comes back with the original error INPUT I/0 ERROR so now assuming we ahave been given a faulty replacement tape drive ? the /dev/nrmt0h still shows 6th may

Re: Replaced TLZ09 tape drive not recognised on boot
it is important to check that the scsi id the same as on the replaced one.
scu scan edt
scu show edt
should show the tape
Delete the entries in /dev and do
cd /dev
./MAKEDEV tzxx
xx is calculated by the bus#*1 + targetid.
greetings,
Michael

Re: Replaced TLZ09 tape drive not recognised on boot
The date on the /dev/nrmt0h is not interesting or useful toward this problem.

Re: Replaced TLZ09 tape drive not recognised on boot
Looks like you have been given a faulty replacement tape drive. It happened to me many times. I supose you checked address jumpers of new drive. When you install or replace tape drive or disk it must be recognized by SRM. If something is not recognized by SRM, it can not be recognized by OS. You have to do what Michael said only if you change SCSI ID (on V4.x). If you do not change SCSI ID you do not need to recreate tape device files.
First, tape must be recognized by SRM.
