Size limit of advfs domain

We have connected our Tru64 cluster to a SAN and created a advfs filesytem on the new storage. Is there a limit to the size Tru64 can handle on one filedomain?

I doubt if there is a limit on the domain size. If there, it could be in the specification document.

My recomendation always is to not create filesystems more than 500 GB. This is because if the filesystem is corrupted, you need a lot of time to restore the filesystem from a backup, or run "salvage".

On EVA disks you cannot create VDISKS/Units more than 2 TB, so the limit should be dictated by the hardware.

This is from the software product description for Tru64 V5.1b-2, but be aware of other limits (performance, storage and so on..):

A single AdvFS file domain may contain up to 256 physical or logical volumes/LUNs with an AdvFS Utilities license installed. See the System Configuration and Tuning guide for volumes per domain, file domain, and fileset recommendations.
* The maximum physical volume size is 1 TB-512 K.
* The maximum number of files in a fileset is 231. (This number is limited by the length of the tag that is used to uniquely identify a file in a fileset.)
* The maximum size of an AdvFS file and fileset is 16 TB - 512 K (213 * 232), with an 8 K page size and a 31-bit page number.

Yes :-) Note that those numbers in the previous reply such as 231 mean 2 to the power 31. So basically you can make them as large as your storage allows as you will run into a practical limit before you run into the real limit. Typically you shouldn't make them larger than what you are willing to restore should something happen. Currently it would be wise to not go beyond 1 TB for those reasons.
