Simpler Navigation for Servers and Operating Systems
Completed: a much simpler Servers and Operating Systems section of the Community. We combined many of the older boards, so you won't have to click through so many levels to get at the information you need. Check the consolidated boards here as many sub-forums are now single boards.

Tape drive respond strangely

A SDLT NSR is giving me problem.
Commands like
mt -f /dev/ntape/tape0_d1 rewind or
vrestore -xf /dev/ntape/tape0_d1 -D /xxx
did not do anything. Needed a "Ctrl+C" to get out.
When the same commands were issued from another system to this SDLT, the tape unit seemed to be working fine.
The OS are 5.1b plus patch kit 2 on both systems.

Re: Tape drive respond strangely

Simultaneous access from 2 non-coordinating systems to the same tape device never is a good idea.
Have you tried changing the mapping on the NSR to give the system that needs to do the vrestore exclusive access to the tape-drive ?

Re: Tape drive respond strangely

Did you try to see if the tape drive is seen by the system by issung the command
# hwmgr -view dev

May be also you can try cleaning the hardware device list.
