I'm trying to create a bootable tape of one of our Tru64 systems using btcreate. When I get to the selecting file system section, I try to enter the line:
root_domain#root / advfs
It then replies with:
rootdg.rootvol in /etc/fdmns/root_domain is invalid.
root_domain#root / advfs is invalid.
Don't suppose anyone has any ideas on how to fix this?
It's a AlphaServer 2100 if that helps.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Re: Tru64 V5.0 - btcreate: root_domain#root / advfs is invalid.
I've never used it, but I'll guess that btcreate isn't compatible with the LSM root disk that you appear to have...
Cheers,
Rob

Re: Tru64 V5.0 - btcreate: root_domain#root / advfs is invalid.
Was your system configured with LSM volumes at installation or later?
LSM support is provided on a system only if it is configured with LSM volumes at installation.
I always prefer vdump/vrestore over bttape.

Nice info Thanks Vladimir

I could not find it in man pages.

I have never used bttape with LSM root.
As I said, I prefer vdump.

Re: Tru64 V5.0 - btcreate: root_domain#root / advfs is invalid.
The following restrictions apply:
+ You cannot run multiple instances of the btcreate command. The
/usr/run/bttape.pid lock file is created when the command runs and is
removed when that instance of the command is terminated.
+ LSM support is provided only for root, swap and usr filesystems.
+ LSM support is provided on a system only if it is configured with LSM
volumes at installation.
+ LSM support is provided only in unattended mode.
+ Mirroring and striping are not supported options for bootable tape.
