Tru64 V5.1 and Optical Drive
We have purchased a new DS15 AlphaStation to replace an old defective AlphaStation server which had a SCSI RWZ53-DA (or SONY SMO-F541-01) optical drive.
The old AlphaStation had the following subsets installed on it:
OSDSCAM160 SCSI Device Drivers
OSDSMAN160 Online Manual Pages
OSDSOSF160 File System Patches
OSDSVFS160 Optical File System
This software(DIGITAL Optical Storage Desktop Software for Digital UNIX) was available on the Software Products Library upto April 2005 and then no longer available.
This installation on Tru64 V5.1 aborts refering to OSF/1 as required operating system.
Can anyone help with the installation (Optical File System ) or information regarding support for this hardware on Tru64 V5.1. I have seen that there is an "OPTICALS" section in the /etc/ddr.dbase but do not know how to proceed with this information.
The drive SCSI id 4 is also recognised by hwmgr:
# hwmgr show scsi
SCSI DEVICE DEVICE DRIVER NUM DEVICE FIRST
HWID: DEVICEID HOSTNAME TYPE SUBTYPE OWNER PATH FILE VALID PATH
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
0: 3 xindc1 optical none 0 1 (null) [1/4/0]
67: 0 xindc1 disk none 2 1 dsk0 [0/0/0]
68: 2 xindc1 cdrom none 0 1 cdrom0 [2/0/0]
71: 1 xindc1 tape none 0 1 tape0 [1/5/0]
Thanks.

Re: Tru64 V5.1 and Optical Drive
I suspect the old system was running V4?
One set of optical file system support in V4 was via a layered product called clc. That layered product was not ported nor is it supported under V5 systems.

Re: Tru64 V5.1 and Optical Drive
You are correct that the previous optical drive and software were on Tru64 V4.D.
I have searched the internet aswell for 3rd party vendor software but have also been fruitless uptil now.
Any links or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
