Vmunix file with 0 bytes

Hi guys!
The vmunix file of my tru64 4.0F server had its data deleted, that is, it has 0 bytes of data.
How can I recreate It or recovery from this situation.
thanks

Re: Vmunix file with 0 bytes

Assuming the system is still running,
you can try to rebuild a new kernel with
doconfig -c "CONFIGFILE" and move it to /
CONFIGFILE is in /sys/conf and most likely
hostname in capital letters.
Got backup? Try to restore!
If the system is down, boot the genvmunix
and rebuild kernel.
After restauration you should best reboot the system.

hope to have helped

Re: Vmunix file with 0 bytes

Hello,

The other possibility is that a copy of the old file may still be in /sys/conf/{HOSTNAME}/ directory. Check that path and see if there is a vmunix with size, if so it's very possible that it's a copy of what was in / root prior to it being zapped/zero'd.

Beyond that I'd 2nd Michael's advice in using a backup to recover the file.
