Warning: Some file(s) of AdvFS fileset

Dear All
I m in a fix as I have found some error in /var/adm/messages in one of our system OS Tru64 V5.1, as follows:

7442 Apr 9 22:14:13 ISDS20-1 vmunix: Repairable AdvFs corruption detected, consider running fixfdmn.
7443 Apr 9 22:14:13 ISDS20-1 vmunix: Warning: Some file(s) of AdvFS fileset "root" in domain = "root_domain"
7444 Apr 9 22:14:13 ISDS20-1 vmunix: belonging to directory tag 2 are inacce
ssible.

And facing complaints from application tem that they are unable to connect database, how ever we can login to system in OS level.

Please suggest on the same as soon as possible.

Points are waiting for all who will spend some time on the same...

Re: Warning: Some file(s) of AdvFS fileset

As the message says, you could try running 'fixfdmn' on it. Read the manpage before you proceed though.

I know nothing, but I'd probably try that.

There seems to be a "-u" ("undo") option so
it may be fairly safe.

You _would_ choose "root_domain" to have a
problem:

If you need to repair the root domain, you must boot from CD-ROM and create
the entry for the root domain under the /etc/fdmns directory.

From the "RESTRICTIONS" section, it sounds as
if it'd be best to mount the trouble-maker
read-only, and do a little looking around,
before trying to return to normal operation.

How are your backups?

Re: Warning: Some file(s) of AdvFS fileset

You may have hardware problem, i.e. disk problem (some bad block or something like that).
First BACKUP entire disk (all file systems that exists on that disk) using vdump.
Then you can try fixdmn like guys said.
And please give more details like which alpha server, OS patch level ...
If need details, just ask.

Re: Warning: Some file(s) of AdvFS fileset

Hi,
from man page
------
For each fileset,
the mkfset command creates a .tags directory. The .tags directory is a
permanent directory that is reserved for future use. You cannot
delete, rename, or add any files to the .tags directory.
-----
so some files from root domain are missing and hence the message.
Rescue is fixfdmn as said above.
>>boot from cdrom
>>start LSM
>>fixfdmn

and u r done.
BR,
Kapil
