Xserver dumps core

Hello,

I am running Tru64 5.1 in a DS20.

Of late there's this thing that i 've noticed about the Xserver.

It hogs the CPU ( 99 % from top output )and eventually crashes dumping core.

It respawns back and again starts hogging the cpu.

Any pointers on what could be done about this.

Regards,
Srivathsan

PS: This server is attached to a KVM switch for display.

Re: Xserver dumps core

if using CDE: Network issue

Why not analyzing the core or checking what routine causes the 99%? Btw. 5.1 is not supported any more.

Btw. is the KVM certified for Alpha?

Re: Xserver dumps core

Hi,

Ralf: KVM is certifed for Tru64 (we are using in our Lab)

Srivathsan: we are not facinga any such problem (with Xserver,KVM). could try by installing recent patch kit.

Re: Xserver dumps core

So what does the core tell us? What function is the root cause of the core? Have you disabled powersaving, changed any Xservers parameters?

After what timeframe does the Xservers cores?
