Re: booting problem "load of /etc/init failed error 2"
Looks like you have a hardware problem. When the problem started? Did the machine crash previously? Can you see all disks that are connected to the server with the SRM>> show dev command?
I would try booting from the CD to verify access to the disks.

Re: booting problem "load of /etc/init failed error 2"
But before that you can try boot in single user mode:
>>> boot -flag 0

Re: booting problem "load of /etc/init failed error 2"
1. Boot from CD and go to command line interface
2. mkdir /etc/fdmns/fakeroot
3. ln -s /dev/rzxxyyz /etc/fdmns/fakeroot/rzxxyyz
4. mkdir /tmp/fakeroot
5. mount fakeroot#root /tmp/fakeroot
You will of course have to substitute the correct device name for 'rzxxyyz' in step 3.

Re: booting problem "load of /etc/init failed error 2"
Do:
# scu scan edt
# scu show edt
to see where are your disks
That you may need to create device files:
# cd /dev
# ./MAKEDEV rz0*
Maybe it would be easier:
rz0 if your disk is DKA0 in console
or rz1 if your disk is DKA100 in console
or rz8 if your disk is DKB0 in console etc
If you have UFS then you can mount:
# mount /dev/rz0a /fakeroot
If you have advfs use solution from Mark.

Re: booting problem "load of /etc/init failed error 2"
Is it DKA0 or something else?
Did you create device files with MAKEDEV?
