btcreate problem with kernel size exceeding 32MB
I try to create a bootable tape using btcreate. I have tried both using a script very similar to the one proposed by Pieter 't Hart in http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=242661
and from sysman.
Neither method succeeds, they both complain about "Kernel size is crossing the firmware limit with mandatory options" and then exit. The size limit in the mktape is 32MB-36*8K; this limit is also mentioned in http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=755237
Is there any way of working around this?
The system is two clustered ES80 servers running 5.1b PK5.

Re: btcreate problem with kernel size exceeding 32MB
the second link has the solution. Why don't you try it?

Michael

Re: btcreate problem with kernel size exceeding 32MB
I have the impression that the 5.1PK3 version of btcreate creates a minimal kernel for you if the one created from the config file supplied to btcreate generates is too big.
Nevertheless, I created a kernel with no options, and tried again. The result is the same. (See enclosed log file - not that I have added a couple of debug printouts to btcreate and mktape to see the kernel file sizes).
I also had to add a "mkdir $MNT/dev" (at around line 620 of mktape) to get rid of a couple of error messages from btcreate.
What do I miss here?

Re: btcreate problem with kernel size exceeding 32MB
it looks strange that if can not get below the limit even without options. The one that btcreate builds with manadatory options is bigger but that is logical since you specified a config file without any options.
Can you post your config file?
greetings,
Michael

Re: btcreate problem with kernel size exceeding 32MB
Cf. http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1032457
(The Cluster Admin manual only mentions bttape, not btcreate :-(
