Hi
I found some process whit a "dead" status when I used TOP utility to check. such as:
How to restart them ?
emory: Real: 100M/290M act/tot Virtual: 2048M use/tot Free: 133M
PID USERNAME PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME CPU COMMAND
10967 root 49 0 4224K 1261K run 0:05 6.60% sam
10971 root 49 0 4224K 1228K run 0:03 6.60% vi
10974 root 48 0 4232K 393K run 0:02 6.40% top
10966 root 0 0 dead 0.00%
10972 root 48 0 7888K 172K run 0:03 5.30% dtscreen
10970 root 0 0 dead 0.00%
10864 das 44 0 9360K 679K run 1:04 3.60% collector_bel

Rambo,
sometimes top displays a process which is in the process of dying. There is nothing you can do about that and it is a normal part of process' life. Create,exist,die,vanish.
Depending on how busy the system is it may take longer to disappear.

Hi,
I think top utility displays the "zombie" (defunct) processes as "dead". "Getting rid of defunct processes" topic in this forum has some info on the subject.
