mcicap on Tru64 5.1

Does anyone know what the exact entry for an HP DAT40x6e tapeloader is in the mcicap file.
It's a 6-tape-catridge loader and DDS4 drive.
I have the /dev/tape/tape1c and /dev/changer/mc0 files. Using tar and untar to a loaded tape works fine. Also, using mcutil, moving a tape from slot # to the drive works, unloading doesn't. So I assume it has something to do with the capabilities in the mcicap. Another possibility would be the dipswitches on the bottom of the tapeloader, but to my knowledge that's correct.

Has anyone experience with this?

Thanks in advance,

Albert

could you please give us the complete model number of the tape/loader? Without this information I can not check if this device is on the supported option list.
What model of the scsi controller is used?

Do you have patches installed?
What firmware version is installed on the tape/loader?

Re: mcicap on Tru64 5.1

As far as I can see, the DAT40x6 isn't a supported autoloader on Tru64 UNIX. I'm not a storage engineer, but I decided to check this one out. I'd suggest you log a call with HP and find out for sure. Or, let's see if we can get a storage support specialist to answer.

Notice the hardware compatibility table:
http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/compatibility/tapebackup/alpha/index.html

You get there by going through "compatibility" on this page:
http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/products/automatedbackup/autoloaders/dat40x6/index.html

Also here:
http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/products/automatedbackup/pdfs/autoloaders/brochures/ssd40x6q.pdf?lc=en&docName=lpg75101

Please don't take this as definitive because, like I said, I'm not on the storage team. I'd strongly suggest you get a response from a storage engineer or log a call with HP to get a definitive answer for this question. And frankly, you may just get this to work even if it isn't formally supported.

We do support quite a few autoloaders supporting different tape technologies. Please get with your local sales rep for compatible models if you find that the DAT40x6 is not supported as I suspect.
