Re: non-root user login fails in Tru64

Hi,

Can you be a bit more specific...?

You first say the login fails, which implies the user got an error message... what was it ?

But you then say telnet to the host fails, which potentially means the user didn't even get the login prompt ...

Cheers,

Thanks Rob.

It is promping for username/password. Then the telnet login window vanishes without throwing any error messages.

Hi,

OK. Is there anything obvious in the authentication logs ?

/var/adm/syslog.dated/current/auth.log

Re: non-root user login fails in Tru64

The problem could be that the telnet window does not display the error message. This is common.

Try logging as root and from the command line logon as a different user:

telnet localhost

You will be able to see the error message. The error could be something as "account is disabled". If the error is like that use:

usermod -x administrative_lock_applied=0 username
usermod -x grace_limit=1 username
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: non-root user login fails in Tru64

Hi all,

Thanks for your responses. Please find the below error log.

#telnet localhost
...
...
login: sarav
Password:
Too many users logged on already.
Try again later.
Connection closed by foreign host.
#

Note : No non-root users except one root user is logged in.

I cant get any useful info from /var/adm/syslog.dated/current/auth.log.

Re: non-root user login fails in Tru64

I think this could be due license expiry. If the error is "Too many users already logged in", then you can be pretty sure that it is indeed the reason.
