I dont know what you mean about looping - it restarts and starts building the kernel over and over again?
Anyway, try to boot using genvmunix, and then rebuild the kernel manually.

Yes I've seen this before. If I remember correctly it was because the CDSL (Cluster Dependant Symbolic Link) for /vmunix had been broken...

I didn't remember correctly... The problem was actually down to an invalid hardware database.
