root login disabled

After unsuccessful login attempts, the root login got disabled and I am not able to su to the root ( as per the policy set ).Tried to login from the console.Got the message console login is allowed.Entered the correct password.
Error: Can't rewrite protected password entry for user root.
I got the same login screen again. No way I can login as root.

I had another account with root privilge, used that account to login and enabled the root account and I was able to login as normal.

Any idea, why am not able to login as root through console ? We are using Enhanced Security. I would appreciate if you could let me know the reason behind it.Thanks.

Re: root login disabled

Hi thanks for your reply.I have tried that option already, but it didnt work.

Root login is not allowed and only su to root is allowed from terminals. When there is multiple ( 3 ) root login attempts, the account gets disabled.

When I try to login from the console after typing the password, I get a message "Account Disabled console login allowed". Then when click option "OK", I get the same error - Can't rewrite protected password for user root.
It gives me back the same login screen ( circles ).
