vdump: unable to write to device ; [5] I/O error
vdump: unable to prompt input for retry on device; [25] Not a typewriter
Is this a tape or tape drive problem?

Re: vdump error
Try the "mt status" and see what you get. It looks very likely that there is an issue with your tape drive and it needs to be replaced by HP.
Let us know the outcome

Re: vdump error
what are the name of the tape drives that you have?
mt command without any name for the tape drive assumes the default and looks for the nrmt0h
if you have the tape drive not as nrmt0h (check with scu scan edt all and scu show edt all), then you have to use vdump -f /dev/nrmtxh where x is the tape drive number

Re: vdump error
/dev/nrmt0h corresponds to tape drive,
check with "mt status" command

Re: vdump error
Tape drives could be named anything, the default is /dev/nrmt0h, but you can have nrmt1h and nrmt2h and so on.......
