Controller P410i Settings Cachesize for ESX4
Hi,
on a HP DL370g6 with a Smart P410i Controller and ESX4 with local disks, how should be the optimal Cache Settings 50%Read/50%Write or 75%Read/255Write? There are a 4 VM's Fileserver, SQL and 2 others.
For this hardware what is recommended?
If I have to change this, can I do this with the Smartstart CD or in the Controller Bios?
Thanks a lot!

Re: Controller P410i Settings Cachesize for ESX4
There is no real recommendation, it all depends on your applications. Start with 50/50, then monitor the server for reads and writes. If one of the two is significant higher then adjust the cache levels according. Cache levels can be changed with the array configuration utility on the smartstart cdrom. But I believe it can also be done through the bios of the new G6 series servers.
When using raid 5 or 6 I like to set the cache to 75% write. because raid 5 is usually slower writing data. This is a personal preference and i'm not really sure if it's good advice. Perhaps other people care to comment on this?
